Following the publication of the First Report of Session 2006-07 of the House of Commons Members Estimate Committee, all members are eligible to apply for an annual Communications Allowance of up to £10,000 (to be uprated annually in line with any increase in Retail Price Index) for the exclusive purpose of communicating with the public on Parliamentary business.
The Communications Allowance is available to meet the cost of Members engaged proactively with their constituents. It is to be used wholly and exclusively for the purpose of performing Parliamentary duties.

- To conduct business activities or to obtain inappropriate private benefit
- For fund raising
- For Party politics and campaigning
- To publish or promote any publication
- To advertise on behalf of any other entity
- To damage the interests of any other party or organisation
